Petunias: 4 steps to lush flowering
A bit about the variety of petunias
A flower of amazing beauty, originally from Brazil, which means “tobacco” in Brazilian “petun”, is today the favorite summer plant of summer residents, gardeners and landscape designers.
Petunias are with large and small flowers of the shape of a corolla. They are called large-flowered (flower diameter from 7 to 13 cm) and small-flowered petunia (diameter from 2 to 4 cm). Separately distinguish the appearance of multiflowered petunia (with flowers from 5 to 8 cm).
There is a variety of terry petunia, it has a flower with fringe, as well as ampelous petunia for breeding in hanging pots, a cache-pot, flowerpots, baskets.
The beauty of the petunia flower is fascinating: you can see in it the constellation and night, sunset and dawn.
That is why petunia looks so good in the garden, on city beds, balconies and terraces, because it allows you to implement almost any design plan.
If you want to breed petunia, you need to master the art of growing seedlings. Only from seedlings will the plant turn out to be strong, magnificent and healthy. Of course, if you look after him correctly.
The path to magical petunias is overcome in 4 steps:
1 step. The right choice of varieties and seeds for seedlings
The seeds of petunias are microscopic, they are almost not noticeable in the ground. That is why for their preservation now on the market they offer granular (pelleted seeds) coated with a special protective coating of nutrients, which subsequently dissolves in the ground. Regardless of which seeds you use, ordinary or pelleted, you need to sow them in loose, light, nutritious and acid-neutral soil. Seeds in the form of granules are dangerous to overdry, so when choosing dragee seeds, monitor the moisture of the soil. Seeds are sown on the surface of the earth and covered with seedlings with a plastic film. The temperature should be at least 20 ° C. Good time for sowing is from February to April.
2 step. Proper seedling care
Petunias need to provide plenty of light and moderate watering. With a lack of light and waterlogged soil, it is easy to get the seedling disease - the "black leg". When watering, do not pour water on the leaves of the plant. The temperature before seedling maintain + 23-25 ° C. After 2 weeks, the seeds should already be together. Next, maintain the temperature at + 18-20 ° C during the day, and + 15 ° C at night.
3 step. Picking seedlings
When 3-4 leaves appeared, petunia is dived-transplanted into a new larger container so that the plants can continue to grow actively and form a strong root system. The root system of petunias is voluminous, powerful, so choose a larger container. Or, you can dive a petunia twice.
4 step. Proper feeding
Petunia needs to be fed through the month of August, inclusive.
After the transplant, carefully inspect the plant:
If it is weak and with dark leaves, it needs to be fed with nitrogen fertilizer. During watering, sprinkle the plant on a leaf with a special liquid fertilizer Florist “Rost” with a high nitrogen content, so that the seedlings become lush and strong. You can also use fertilizer Florist “Bud” to stimulate the flowering of petunias, and Florist “Micro” to increase the immunity of the plant.
If the seedlings are not extended and have dark green leaves, it needs to be fed with a high potassium content. To do this, use the working solution when spraying from a spray gun with potassium / sodium humate (K / Na) with trace elements to increase the absorption of nutrients by the roots of the plant.
Now the petunia seedlings are ready for planting in the open ground!
Let this summer petunias ennoble the earth's space with long and lush flowering!
