Do I need autumn fertilizers?
The end of summer and the beginning of autumn for gardeners, the period is only slightly less active than spring. And the matter is not only in the crop that needs to be collected, sent to storage or processed on time. This is the time of planting and transplanting of perennial plants, and most importantly - worries about next year's crop. For this purpose, special autumn fertilizers are used. What exactly are they for and how do they work? To help gardeners and gardeners, our rubric is “Question-answer” and recommendations of a specialist.
Question: autumn fertilizers, are they needed?
This question will be answered by the head of the agricultural chemical service of Buisky Chemical Plant OJSC Belozerov Dmitry Alexandrovich.
Answer: a person eats daily, except for special cases - illness, diet, etc. Can a plant skip a day and not get its nutrition? In artificial conditions - in hydroponics, probably yes. In nature - in the garden and garden, the soil provides plants with mineral components every day, but as much as it is fertile and provided. And it already depends on us.
In anticipation of the future harvest, especially for fruit trees and shrubs, experts recommend emphasizing in their feeding on potash, phosphorus and trace elements. This is correct, since during the formation and ripening of the fetus, the main process is the synthesis of sugars and carbohydrates, amino acids and vitamins.
When feeding at the end of summer and in the fall in dry form or by watering, we must understand that we provide not only the harvest of the current year, but also the next. Exactly!
It is not uncommon for gardeners to get an apple crop in a year and attribute it to the fact that the trees are "resting". In fact, they do not rest, but accumulate “strength” for the next harvest, if they were not provided with mineral nutrition sufficiently. By the way, in professional orchards, apple trees bear fruit every year. The systematic and dosed application of fertilizing allows you to give a good and high-quality crop.
So what do we do?
Of course feed our plants!
Depending on the preferences of gardeners, there are always several options. In this article, we consider soil fertilizers.
Mineral fertilizer "Autumn"
Mineral fertilizer Autumn does not contain nitrogen at all, a little phosphorus (5%) and a significant part of potassium (18%). Fertilizer is intended for application in dry form with subsequent incorporation into the soil and subsequent watering. In addition to macronutrients, the fertilizer contains:
- Calcium (8%) - it strengthens the root system, cell walls, provides protective properties;
- Magnesium (2.5%) - improves photosynthesis, metabolic processes;
- Boron (0.15%) - increases the taste of fruits, their size, affects the course of organic synthesis of sugars, carbohydrates and starch;
- Sulfur (12%) - is a part of proteins, affects the course of photosynthesis, increases resistance to adverse conditions.
It is necessary to apply it at the beginning of the formation of fruits and after harvesting.
Organomineral fertilizer "Autumn"
Organomineral fertilizer “Autumn” is a more complex complex of macro- and microelements (N, P, K, Mg, S, Cu, Zn, Fe, Mn, B). The organic peat granule “hides” the mineral components in itself and due to this, getting into the soil and in contact with the root system, it does not chemically burn it, as can happen with ordinary mineral fertilizer. The fertilizer is softer in action and prolonged action.
In addition, each granule is treated with potassium humate - a natural growth stimulator that improves the survival of the root system and the microbiological complex of two important bacteria Bacillus Subtilis and Bacillus Mucilaginosus. This and preventive protection against root rot, and additional assimilation of phosphorus and potassium from inaccessible soil reserves.
Fertilizer is also applied in dry form with incorporation into the soil and subsequent watering in the same phases of plant development - the beginning of the formation of fruits after harvest.
Question: Are autumn fertilizers needed for decorative crops?
Answer: Undoubtedly, not only fruitful plants need good nutrition. For normal development, good foliage and reliable wintering, decorative crops - trees and shrubs and other perennial plants - require good nutrition.
During the period of autumn plantings and transplants, it is especially important to introduce organic, mineral or organomineral fertilizers over the crown area or into the planting holes (pits). The survival of plants and their further growth depend on this.
Question: is it possible apply autumn fertilizers in spring?
Answer: It is worth noting that autumn types of fertilizers, for example, monopotassium phosphate, can also be used in the spring for a wide range of crops, but together with some nitrogen fertilizer in the form of fertilizer mixtures or supplemented with separate fertilizing with nitrogen fertilizers through irrigation. To whom it is more convenient.
Applying autumn fertilizers in the fall, we understand that their aftereffect extends to the next year. Since the root system does not absorb nutrients from the soil in winter, in spring the doses of fertilizers for feeding plants fertilized in autumn can be reduced.
