Autumn lawn preparation for winter
A beautiful and well-kept lawn near the house always gives the site a well-groomed appearance. The lawn can exist both independently and in landscape compositions with flower beds, ornamental shrubs or conifers.
It's nice to see when children are playing on the front lawn! Whether it's badminton or soccer, catch-ups or something else. Moreover, not on asphalt or stone tiles, but on real grass.
And no matter how much effort the lawn requires to maintain a normal state, it is worth it.
So how to make it so that from early spring to late autumn, it pleased us with pleasant smooth greens?
Usually we reason that spring will come, and we will take care of the lawn! "Comb", fertilize, periodically we will mow and ... Spring is red, but it is barely barely, in shreds-bushes from the earth appears. Know winter was fierce! Squeezed-disappeared our lawn!
It is better to avoid such a situation. It is necessary to eliminate or reduce the likelihood of lawn death in the winter. Let's start preparing the lawn starting in late summer.
And what, in fact, needs to be done?
The lawn, like any perennial plant, develops a root system in order to absorb nutrients from the soil and water. It develops a vegetative mass - above-ground, in order to absorb solar energy and synthesize complex organic compounds (proteins, fats, carbohydrates, amino acids), necessary for further growth and to set aside their stock for calm wintering and spring regrowth.
Therefore, the "diet" of the lawn should change by the end of summer.
We know that the greenery of the lawn and its growth are largely provided by nitrogen, magnesium, manganese and iron. And it is better to do fertilizing the lawn from spring to mid-summer with fertilizers with an emphasis on these elements. But for preservation in adverse conditions - drought, heat, frost, phosphorus and potassium will help us more. Strengthening the root system of the lawn is the key to its survival and survival. Phosphorus accelerates the development of all processes in the plant, and increases winter hardiness. The trace element - copper enhances this function. Potassium slows down vegetative growth, but at the same time increases the thickness of the cell walls, enhances the formation of sugars and their movement through tissues. In this he is helped - manganese and boron. The flow of vital functions and metabolism is regulated by other macro- and microelements.
From a practical point of view, we can prepare the lawn for winter in different ways. Liquid and dry top dressing. To whom it is more convenient.
If in the spring and summer we “fed” the lawn with various complexes, then the monopotassium phosphate fertilizer will be a perfectly acceptable option for autumn nutrition. This is a concentrated water-soluble fertilizer that contains two main elements - phosphorus (P2O5-50%) and potassium (K2O-33%). Application - a teaspoon (5-7 g) per bucket of water and a solution flow rate of 4-10 liters per 1 m2. Such a dose of fertilizer is enough for a lawn spill every two weeks, from mid-August to the end of September - beginning of October, as the weather allows. If there are irrigation systems, then you can make the solution weaker 1-2 g / 10 l. water, but top dressing more often and even with each watering.
If, for various reasons, during the summer period, top dressing on the lawn was not done, then it is necessary to combine with liquid top dressing or apply complex fertilizer OMU Autumn for the Lawn on your own.
This organic mineral fertilizer is a complex complex of macro- and microelements (N, P, K, Mg, S, Cu, Zn, Fe, Mn, B), where there is not much nitrogen (2%), but the phosphorus content is increased (5%) and potassium (10%) - what we need! A complex of elements, in general, gives a better result in comparison with monofertilizers. Organic peat granule contains mineral components and, thanks to this combination, getting into the soil does not burn the root system, as can happen with ordinary mineral fertilizer, which can cause chemical burns due to the high concentration of substances. Organomineral fertilizer prolonged and softer in action. Also, each granule is additionally treated with potassium humate - a natural growth stimulator that improves the survival of the root system and the microbiological complex of two important bacteria, Bacillus Subtilis and Bacillus Mucilaginosus. This combination has a double effect: this is protection against possible root rot, and additional assimilation of phosphorus and potassium from inaccessible soil reserves. Suitable for all types of soils and lawns.
Granular fertilizer in an amount of 20-30 g / m2 is applied in dry form, followed by combing or puncturing the lawn and compulsory watering. We recommend that you do two top dressings with an interval of 20-30 days, from August to October, depending on weather conditions.
A well-prepared lawn is not afraid of winter or dry periods, actively grows after mowing, forms a dense uniform grass stand, and makes us happy with its juicy, bright greens.
