Plants in the garden to help you be healthy
Why do we need a garden? Probably, first of all, for health - mental, physical and mental. The body works in the garden and the soul rests. That is, for the body, no matter which side you look at, it’s good. Also, vegetables, fruits, berries, greens, again, are useful. In addition, at your site you can grow something mega-useful, for example, magnolia vine or Eleutherococcus, and then walk healthy, rosy and cheerful among pale colleagues, scared by another virus. And not just about plants.
What exactly will we fight for
The weakest point in almost any modern person is immunity. That is, the ability of one's own body to resist everything unfriendly and frankly harmful. With age, it weakens in almost everyone. The nature of the diet, the presence of bad habits and the lack of healthy ones greatly aggravate the situation.
But immunity - it is inside when the pathogen has broken through external protection. There is also the first line of defense - leather, mucous membranes, hairs and cilia in the nose - They also require care and attention.
And the invisible, but huge and significant part of our defense - microbiome. Those microorganisms (fungi, viruses, bacteria, protozoa) that live on the surface of our body and within us. They live differently: there are symbionts (mutual benefit), there are commensals (benefit one without harming the other), there are parasites (benefit to the parasite, harm to the owner), there are neutrals - well, live for yourself, and let them live!
In the protection of microbiomes, it takes the most direct and direct part. And not out of selfless love for the owner, but just trying to prevent competitors from multiplying on their territory. The fight is serious, although for us it is not always noticeable. Of course, if you eat something rich in microflora and unusual (homemade curdled milk, for example), the war of microbiomes in the stomach will be very sensitive.
Additionally, it’s good to organize a healthy surrounding area - healing air.
What will help us?
The garden will help. That is, it will not only help once, but will help all my life. Especially if you add medicinal plants to it, it will be enough for both grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Wild plants can help a lot. It should be borne in mind that in wild plants, the complex of useful substances is always much larger than in the same plants grown in culture. The plant does not accumulate all this for us, but takes care of itself: vitamins, antioxidants, and phenolic compounds protect the plant from external enemies and adverse conditions. There are many times more difficulties in the forest than in the garden; the plant has been training since childhood.
Unfortunately, not all very useful plants can be found in the surrounding forests (there are places where it is difficult to find a healthy forest), it is more reliable to grow them. Much in the garden grows by itself, just not everyone is aware of how much a particular plant is healing.
The selection of useful plants is huge, but not all of them are light in culture (ginseng, for example), many create a number of additional problems (shoots or thorns). So, we select plants for the conditions of our garden and our capabilities.
There are other factors - few people can afford a pine or cedar on a site with all the wonderful qualities. And in some cases, a useful result will be obtained after several years. From this point of view, it is worth acquiring both annuals and perennials.
Just in case, let me remind you that healing plants should not be treated with pesticides, fungicides and insecticides. It is advisable to create the most natural conditions for them, and then they will have extremely beneficial qualities.
Early spring will give a lot of useful weeds and, instead of negativity, gardeners are very likely to imbue them with warm feelings. In any case, weeds will come out first. In anticipation of planted and sown, it is precisely the weeds that can support our weakened organism during the winter.
Stinging nettle - Most gardeners know about its value when feeding plants. So, it is no less useful for humans. Silicic acids contained in the plant contribute to the production of lymphocytes. The complex of minerals, phenolic compounds, vitamins and antioxidants promotes the regeneration of tissues - skin, hair follicles, mucous membranes.
You can eat fresh leaves (pour boiling water so as not to burn), you can dried. With regular use, nettle ceases to be a weed and becomes desired in every area.
The same silicic acid contains wheat grass creeping - a headache for gardeners. In addition to stimulating the immune system, it helps to cleanse the blood, and the skin is getting better! Many probably saw how dogs and cats eat wheat grass. In addition to mineral and vitamin top dressing, wheat grass also acts as an antiparasitic agent. Wheatgrass roots are healthier than leaves, they contribute to the regeneration of mucous membranes, improve metabolic processes, have immunomodulating and adaptogenic properties.
You can eat wheatgrass fresh and dried, in the form of infusions and decoctions. Fresh greens can be cut into a salad, only it is necessary very finely - it is rough. From greens with roots, after washing well, you can make a smoothie option. If you get a taste, the wheat grass on the site will quickly end! By the way, a decoction of nettle and wheatgrass added to the bath perfectly nourishes and heals the skin.
In general, you can eat most malicious and not very weeds - in the spring, their young leaves will give the body the necessary and certainly biologically active substances more than any pharmaceutical preparations or imported vegetables and fruits. At the same time, they diversify microbiomes.
Dandelion - the leaves are soaked in salted water, added to salads and smoothies. Dream you don’t even need to soak it, immediately in the salad. Quinoa - also in the salad without processing. Spring young shoots horsetail - same way.
All these weeds can be added to pies, scrambled eggs, pancakes with seasoning, but it is better to eat raw. With unrefined oil. First, little by little, so that unusual microorganisms do not come into open conflict with an existing intestinal microbiome, and gradually invade. And the garden will be cleaner.
A little more about the mucous membranes, which are on the first line of defense. They also have lymphocytes that guard the perimeter of our body. So they are produced in the intestine. And the stimulator of their formation is green vegetables, which is associated with a high content of chlorophyll in them.
Therefore, all green that will be planted, grown and eaten is able to strengthen the protection of the external perimeter. Maybe that's why they live in the Caucasus for a long time? After moving to the Kuban, I myself became addicted to greenery, but in terms of its variety and quantity I still lag behind the native Caucasians.
Start with green onions all kinds of radish leavesyoung shoots garlic (specially planted in some places on the green), watercress, chervil, leaf lettuce. Then pulls up cilantro, dill, garden purslane (he is a weed). Perennials grow back - mint, Melissa, thyme, oregano, sage, hyssop. Grow up parsley and celeryis selected from the ground asparagus. Cabbage - all kinds are exceptionally good.
In the Caucasus, spring greens are also customary to sour, such a spring tursha, the benefits of which, like all pickled vegetables, are invaluable for our intestinal microbiome.
Plants - heavy artillery to support immunity
There is a category of plants that literally “boosts” weakened immunity, and, I think, it is advisable to have them in your garden.
Familiar to everyone, but from this the dogrose has not lost its position at all. The most vitamin variant - wrinkled dogrose (Rosa rugosa), growing in the Far East of Russia. Thorny shrub with wrinkled leaves and very fragrant flowers.
During our stay in Komsomolsk-on-Amur, we grew it around the perimeter of the site. The bush is not higher than 1.5 meters, sprawling, healthy, never freezing at temperatures up to -43 ° C and "black frost" (without snow) to -25 ° C. Blooms once in June with semi-double large flowers, abundantly, willingly knots round apple-shaped large (3 cm) fruits of a dark orange color.
Fruits are no less decorative than flowers. They are easy to collect and eat right from the bush - the fruits have a thick, sweet and sour flesh. A wonderful adaptogen, immunostimulant and a storehouse of nutrients.
I do not want to seem like a fan of Far Eastern plants, but the following is also from there. Schisandra chinensis (Schisandra chinensis) - a surprisingly powerful, elegant plant. Liana with shoots up to 10-15 m long, while the trunk thickness does not exceed 2 cm. The shoots are thin, curl around the support. If the support is over, gracefully hang down. The bark is bright brown, the leaves are cheerful green in the summer and lemon yellow in the fall. Actively spreading from the root, it is necessary to limit. We just mowed the excess.
Monoecious plant, flowers male and female. Interestingly, in some years, male flowers may prevail, in others - female. Liana herself decides what gender she is this year. In adulthood, this question somehow settles down and bears fruit annually. There are very rare cases when a liana is uniquely either male or female.
You need to plant in a shaded place, in the sun, lemongrass will choose itself. In June it blooms with white fragrant flowers; in September, bright red brushes of berries ripen. In combination with lemon foliage, the spectacle is enchanting.
A very powerful adaptogen and immunostimulant, and the whole plant - berries, leaves, stems, roots and even petioles. Lemon smell is possessed by all parts of the plant.
The Chinese put lemongrass in usefulness in second place after ginseng.
Buckthorn Buckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides) - a plant that has not been determined, whether it is a shrub or a tree - can be both. And with her growth in different ways. In Komsomolsk-on-Amur, the adult male tree did not exceed 3 m in our country, and the female tree did not grow above 1.5 m. And in the Kuban I see in the gardens 3-meter trees with fruits. In general, it all depends on the variety, population and terrain.
Dioecious plant. It is imperative to have a male plant, and female plants within 30 meters can be planted in many different varieties. Plants have beautiful small and narrow silvery foliage, unusually good against the background of green leaves. Only the most inquisitive can discern the flowers, but the berries, which can be from light yellow through all shades of orange to red, are very catchy. Sprigs of female plants are covered with berries. A beautiful sight!
Sea buckthorn is very hardy, photophilous, does not like dampness, grows remarkably in dry places. A significant minus - it gives a lot of root shoots at a noticeable distance from the main trunk, you need to limit it. But it strengthens the slopes well. Prickly, collecting is difficult. There are many varieties now and it is quite possible to choose low-thorny berries with a dry separation of berries.
A storehouse of vitamins and nutrients. Living in the Far East, we harvested it raw grated with sugar for the winter - we froze it. In winter, a couple of spoons in a glass of water - an amazing drink is obtained. The child drank every winter with pleasure and never missed a school because of a cold or a virus.
The benefits of sea buckthorn oil for the skin and mucous membranes cannot be overestimated: from burn lesions to stomatitis - heals everything, tissues regenerate quickly. And making your homemade sea buckthorn oil is quite simple: grind the dried meal after squeezing the juice in a coffee grinder and pour refined oil in a ratio of 1: 1, leave for 2 weeks, stirring. We put on a heating battery, so the process is more fun. Then squeeze and store in the refrigerator.
Read more about the plant in the article Sea buckthorn - will take away any dashing.
What else will the garden help?
Spring worries begin with numerous and varied garden work. That is, a fixed lifestyle is replaced by a mobile one. Without a habit, it happens with complications. It’s easy to prepare and at the same time boost immunity, relaxed during the winter. As in sports - you need a warm-up.
Morning exercises with a maximum of various movements will stretch the muscles and joints, disperse stagnant blood. In addition to blood, nothing will take away from the muscles and organs all that is unnecessary and will not deliver the necessary. So it must be driven. Without truth - too much fuss is also useless, you just need to actively move.
There is a good way to disperse the lymphatic system - rubbing it with hard brushes in the morning (blondes are less rigid, their skin is thinner) from the tips of the fingers to the body, along the body - towards the lymph nodes (below the navel, under the armpits, on the palm below the neck). The bonus will be an improvement in the skin, a decrease in cellulite and a noticeable increase in the tone of the whole organism.
As soon as the weather permits, the procedures are best performed in the garden. Not only from the point of view of air baths, but also because all (!) Plants release volatile products into the air. Not all of them have a smell, like in conifers: for example, birch and oak produce phytoncides no less than conifers, but this is not noticeable (and the brooms in the bathhouse are birch or oak!). Phytoncides are able to destroy pathogens in the air and on the surface of the body. And also on the surface of the mucous membranes of the nasopharynx.
More about phytoncides: their maximum amount is secreted by living plants, especially when they have something damaged. This is a form of plant protection, beneficial to others. In nature, always something is damaged: by the wind, insects, birds. By the way, this is also why the smell of mowed grass is so pleasant - phytoncides at this time there is darkness and the body feels it.
Gardening, especially spring ones, with periodic picking and eating spring greens is the best prevention of diseases, including viral ones. Today, more than 6 thousand viruses have been identified and described, and, according to rough estimates of scientists, there may be more than one hundred million of them! We live among them and will live. For millions of years, human immunity has adapted to them, you just need to maintain it in working condition.
Health to all! And the garden will help you!
